Design Specification (DESIGN.md)
Overview
This design system conveys a sense of reliability, clarity, and modern professionalism. The aesthetic is clean and spacious, using a light background to make content highly legible while vibrant blue gradients establish a strong, trustworthy brand presence. A friendly, rounded sans-serif font (Mulish) is used for all text, softening the technical nature of web hosting and creating a welcoming feel. The overall visual hierarchy is strong, guiding the user from prominent headlines to clear calls-to-action.
Colors
The color system is anchored by a vivid blue that represents stability and technology, balanced with a clean white canvas and supporting accent colors for calls-to-action and positive reinforcement.
- primary: A vibrant, trustworthy blue is used for primary actions, links, and key brand elements like headers and icons. It is often deployed as a gradient to add depth and visual interest.
- secondary: A complementary cyan-blue serves as a secondary accent, used for highlights, small badges, and interactive text to draw attention without competing with the primary blue.
- background: A very light, cool off-white is used for the main page background, providing a soft canvas that reduces eye strain compared to a pure white.
- surface: Pure white is used for cards, content blocks, and form fields, creating a clear sense of elevation and separating content from the background.
- text-primary: A dark, desaturated navy is used for all main headings and body copy, offering high contrast for optimal readability while being less harsh than pure black.
- text-secondary & text-muted: These softer shades of the primary text color are used for subtitles and descriptive text, establishing a clear typographic hierarchy.
- accent-yellow: A warm, energetic yellow-orange is used as a contrasting call-to-action color, particularly on primary buttons like "View Web Hosting Plans".
- accent-green: A vibrant, positive teal-green is used in promotional banners to convey value and growth, creating a visually distinct and appealing message.
- border: A subtle, light grey is used for thin dividers and card borders, providing structure without visual clutter.
Typography
Typography is handled by the Mulish font family, which gives the interface a friendly, approachable, yet highly legible character. The system relies on strong variations in weight and size to create a clear hierarchy.
- h1: Extra-bold and large, reserved for the main hero headline to immediately capture attention. It is often set in white to contrast with a colorful background.
- h2: Used for major section titles, this is a bold and prominent size that signals a shift in content.
- h3: This variant is used for sub-section and component titles, such as card headers, providing a solid anchor for smaller blocks of content.
- body: The standard text size for paragraphs and descriptions, set with a generous line height for comfortable reading.
- link: Links are bold and often paired with a small arrow icon to clearly indicate their interactive and directional purpose.
- button: Button text is bold and clear, ensuring the primary action is unmistakable.
Layout
The layout is built around a centered, maximum-width container that creates a sense of order and focus. Spacing is generous, with large padding and margins separating sections and content blocks, contributing to a clean and uncluttered feel. The page structure relies heavily on clear vertical rhythm, using full-width colored bands (like the hero and energy sections) to create distinct visual zones. Internally, components like pricing plans are often arranged in a horizontal three-column grid, while feature lists use a flexible two-column layout to balance text and imagery effectively.
Elevation & Depth
Depth is created subtly and consistently through the use of soft, diffuse box shadows on raised elements like cards and banners, lifting them off the light background. This is particularly noticeable on the "service" cards, which feature a more pronounced shadow on hover to provide tactile feedback. The design also uses solid background colors and gradients to establish major content layers, such as the dark blue hero section, without needing heavy shadows.
Shapes
The shape language is defined by its clean, fairly sharp corners, with a primary radius of 4px used for buttons, cards, and other rectangular elements. This provides a sense of precision and order. The main exception is the "Login" button in the menu, which is a perfect circle. Borders are generally thin and light, serving more as subtle dividers than as strong structural elements.
Components
The system is composed of several recurring components that are key to its visual identity.
button
Buttons are defined by a 4px border radius and solid or gradient backgrounds. The primary button uses a blue gradient, while a secondary yellow button is used for the main hero call-to-action. They feature a brightening hover effect that appears to sweep across the button, providing satisfying interactive feedback.
link
Links, such as "Find out more" or "View Packages," are always bold and typically presented with a small right-facing arrow. On hover, a subtle underline animation occurs. They are colored to match their context, using white, blue, or orange to stand out appropriately.
card
Cards (like the service__item and testimonial-card) are a fundamental building block. They feature a white background, a 4px border radius, and a subtle box shadow. They provide a clear container for content and often use internal padding for breathing room. On hover, they are subtly lifted with an increased shadow effect.
input
Form inputs like checkboxes and text fields have a clean, minimalist appearance with a thin border and rounded corners. The primary styling is functional, blending seamlessly into the card surfaces on which they appear.
hero
The hero section is a prominent, full-width banner with a striking blue gradient background. It features large, white text and is often accompanied by an illustration or graphic on one side, creating a strong visual entry point to the page.
banner
A smaller banner is used to highlight key selling points, like the "Powered by 100% Renewable Energy" message. It uses a soft green gradient background, rounded corners, and shadow to make it pop off the page without being overly aggressive.
Do's and Don'ts
Do
- Use
Mulishfor all text, leveraging its various weights to create a clear typographic hierarchy. - Maintain a clean and spacious layout with ample white space between sections and components.
- Use the primary blue gradient for high-priority actions and brand elements to convey trust and reliability.
- Apply a
4pxborder radius to all buttons, cards, and content blocks to maintain a consistent, precise shape language. - Use soft, layered box shadows to create a clear sense of depth and elevate key content, like cards and promotional banners.
- Use the accent yellow for primary calls-to-action to create a strong, appealing contrast.
- Ensure all text content is highly legible against its background, using the dark blue text on light surfaces and white on dark surfaces.
Don't
- Don't use sharp,
0pxcorners on rectangular elements; the subtle rounding is key to the friendly aesthetic. - Don't use heavy, opaque borders; they should be light and subtle.
- Don't stray from the established color palette of blues, light backgrounds, and warm accent colors.
- Don't use small or light-weight text for important headings; bold weights are essential for hierarchy.
- Don't overuse shadows; they are best reserved for elevating important content.
- Don't mix different font families;
Mulishis the sole typographic voice of the system.
